Non-Response

Typical of a government official, my congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, sent me a form letter in response to my email (posted below). The letter did NOT answer any of the points I made in my letter to him. A typical example of how government officials avoid giving answers and continue to press their own agenda regardless. Here's my reply to his response:

" Dear Rep. Fitzpatrick,
Thank you very much for your reply to my earlier email. However, I am dismayed because your reply did not address a single one of the points I tried to make in my email. Instead, I essentially received a “form-letter” outlining your position on a variety of unrelated topics (many of which I agree with).

In my opinion, you and the rest of Washington are too wrapped up in your own political agenda to address what really concerns the general population. The roadblocks in Washington are actually the result of deeply ingrained prejudices on both sides of the aisle. We The People no longer trust our government because it has, over several decades, steadily eroded our basic liberties. We are well along the path to totalitarianism as predicted by John Locke. Perhaps we’ve even gone too far to be recoverable. The founding fathers seems to embrace the ideal of a “minimal” form of government; one just barely large enough to overcome anarchy. But, certainly not the ungainly behemoth that today employs almost 25% of the total workforce using tax dollars. This trend MUST be reversed if we ever hope to reduce the national debt. It is insufficient to merely reduce the deficit because until the deficit goes to “zero” nothing will have been done to reduce the debt.
The Romans knew that democracy yields compromise; never excellence in government. That is why whenever they got into trouble, they ELECTED a dictator. And, when the dictator had put the house back in  order, the democratically elected Senate got rid of the dictator. That was a very dramatic solution to the problem. But it was certainly better than economic collapse or bloody revolution. Hopfully, we can remind ourselves of this and WORK TOGETHER to fix things for the common good. If we don’t, those other solutions will be inevitable.
Hopefully, you will reply to my expressed concerns without another form letter."

Obama is Out of Control

The following is the text of an open letter I wrote to my congressman Mike Fitzpatrick...

Recent news items have me worried about the state of our democracy. The President in my opinion has way overstepped his constitutional authority in at least two ways within the past several weeks. First, He apparently BROKE THE LAW by refusing to consult with congress before negotiating with terrorists. The law is the law and even the President should not be above it. A simple email to congress notifying them of pending actions would have sufficed. But, he apparently did not even take that minor step. Secondly, just yesterday he used the presumptive authority of his office to deny the union SEPTA workers their constitutional rights to refuse to work without a contract. I doubt that there is any law upon which to base his authority to do this. At least, he apparently has not identified any such law. So TWICE the President has gone beyond the bounds of the law to do thing in his own heavy-handed unilateral way. This is NOT the way our constitution says that his role is to be played. I strongly urge you and your colleagues to IMPEACH the President and call for him to account for his actions in a court of law. I believe these and others of his actions will fail the test of constitutionality."

I urge any of you who have similar opinions about the actions of the President to make your voices heard. Write your congressional representatives, newspapers, etc. Our liberties are being stolen while the silent majority remains silent and apathetic.
